Schlegel To Fill Vacated Mitchell City Council Seat

Last updated on Thursday, January 19, 2012

(MITCHELL) - A Republican caucus Tuesday night chose Vicky Schlegel to fill the council seat vacated when Gerald Tolliver died unexpectedly on Dec. 29.

The city's four precinct committee representatives deliberated over six candidates for nearly an hour before opting for Schlegel. Schlegel has lived in Mitchell for more than a decade and has volunteered throughout the community. Schlegel ran against Tolliver in the primary election in May.

Lawrence County Republican Party Chairman Sam Bond says the fact that she was one of the primary candidates was a big factor in her selection.

Schlegel said she's always been proud to live in Mitchell, which is why she ran for the seat in the first place. Her goal, she said, is to continue to move Mitchell forward.
