(ORLEANS) - The 44th Annual Orleans Dogwood Festival celebration is set for April 28th - May 6th.
When the "Dogwood Festival" officially began, the Orleans Chamber was the first Sponsor, in subsequent years a "Festival Committee" was established and though continuing to work closely with the chamber, became its own entity.
This year the Dogwood Festival Board of Directors decided that in order to ensure the long term well being of the Festival, to once again become a part of the chamber proper and to dissolve, with all monies reverting to the chamber.
There will be still a Dogwood Festival Committee and a General Chairmen with the Chamber acting as Event Sponsor.
This years Dogwood Festival theme is " My Hometown Is...." The hope is that the community will think about what Orleans means to you and consider how you can participate in this years festival. Festivals require volunteers, and all levels of volunteers are needed to make each years celebration a success. Chamber officials and festival planners are looking for those to support events and there are events that need chairmen.
Individuals can volunteer, or friend and family groups can volunteer to work together. The Orleans Dogwood Festival is a celebration for the Orleans community, put together by friends and neighbors . Traditional events will continue to be a large part of this years festival with the crowning of Dogwood Festival Queen marking the official opening thru the closing ceremony of the Town Vesper Service on Sunday evening.
The Chamber and Festival Committee also hope to bring in a few new events that folks will be excited about. The Queen Contest that is traditionally held on the first Saturday of the festival, will be held on Friday this year . The Orleans High School Prom is scheduled this year for Saturday April 28th, so the Friday contest is necessary, in order for the festival queen to reign over the entire length of this year's event.The Little Miss Dogwood Pageant will be held on Sunday afternoon April 29th .
This year's Dogwood Festival Chairman Tami Ehinger and the festival committee will hold a Festival Planning meeting at the Orleans Town Hall Tuesday January17th at 6:30 pm. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
