Mother Faces Criminal Charges For Not Sending Child To School

Last updated on Monday, January 30, 2012

(BLOOMFIELD) - A Greene County mother faces criminal charges for not sending her child to school.

Crystal Pavey, of Linton, is wanted on a warrant because her child, who is in kindergarten, has excessive absences from school.

She is charged with neglect of a dependent with the dependent deprived of education by law, a Class D felony, and compulsory school attendance violation, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Pavey's child was retained in kindergarten last year because of excessive absences.

This year the absences have continued. According to the Linton-Stockton School Guidance Counselor the child has 29 unexcused absences and seven excused absence for a total of 36 missed days.

The school's attendance policy allows for six unexcused days per school year. Because of the absences the child is facing retention again this year, because the child is not making adequate progress.
