(MITCHELL) - Mitchell's Marla Jones and her son Jared will be among 8,000 volunteers who will extend Hoosier hospitality and directions around the Circle City to fans in town for the Super Bowl.
The Joneses are big sports fans. Jared, a senior at Mitchell High School, plans to major in sports management.
Marla thought it would be a great opportunity for Jared and also be an affordable way to be part of the NFL experience.
The mother and son will be stationed in the former Nordstrom's, as part of the Hospitality Huddle. She said their job is to be "way finders" - in other words, help visitors get where they are going. All volunteers are required to work three shifts. The Joneses will do theirs all in one day. The mother-son team will be working Saturday from 9 a.m. until midnight.
To prepare for their roles, they did some online hospitality training. For their efforts, they each received an official Super Bowl coat, hat, jacket and a handmade scarf.
