Linton Police Find Loaded Guns When Serving Warrant

Last updated on Monday, January 23, 2012

(LINTON) - 55-year-old Phillip Sheridan was arrested on multiple drug charges at his home on State Road 67.

A warrant was issued for Sheridan's arrest on Feb. 10, 2011 but he had eluded police for almost a year, according to Linton Police Chief Troy Jerrell.

Sheridan was arrested Friday morning on charges of dealing in a schedule I, II, III substance and maintaining a common nuisance.

He appeared in court later Friday and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to a news release, Sheridan was staying at an apartment in Meadowbrook Apartments in Linton, when police arrived they were told Sheridan was at a home a short distance away. Police were told that Sheridan always had a loaded gun "within arm's reach" and the home had many locked doors to prevent anyone from entering the home.

Police contacted the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team and they assisted with the arrest. Jerrell says there were several loaded firearms at the home, but would not release the exact number. He did say the guns were confiscated and Sheridan now faces addition gun-related charges.

Sheridan has an extensive arrest record dating back to 1994 in Greene, Clay, Owen, Brown and Monroe counties on multiple drug, forgery, theft and driving while suspended charges.
