Lawrence County Police Get Tasers

Last updated on Wednesday, January 18, 2012

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says the Merit Board has approved for officers to carry and use tasers.

Craig says officers will be trained and rules are in place on when officer can and will use the weapon.

Craig says tasers, a non-deadly use of force, will only be used in extreme situations and as a last resort.

The sheriff's department also awarded a $5,000 grant from the Indiana Justice Institute. The money will be used to purchase an ALPHA sensor, which is a portable breathalyzer.
