(GREENE COUNTY) - The Greene County Foundation will use Women’s History Month in March to tell the stories of Greene County women who have made a difference.
The Foundation will recognize local women born in 1936 or earlier, who have led interesting, purposeful and fulfilling lives.
Many women living and growing up in this time period were of the first to enter the workforce or college in large numbers, or raised families during wars, depressions or fought for their civil rights.
Family and friends of Greene County women over the age of 75, or the women themselves, are encouraged to send a 300-word short essay to the Foundation that focuses on why these women should be recognized.
The essay should focus on past events in Greene County, or elsewhere, that the individual has witnessed or taken part in that helped shape the county and the country. It also should focus on the impact the event or events had on the community, the people and their lives.
The essay, along with a current photo of the individual and a photo from the time period discussed in the essay, must be turned in to the Foundation by Feb. 15.
They can be submitted electronically at gcinfo@greenecountyfoundation.org, by mail to Greene County Foundation, 4513 West State Road 54, Bloomfield, Ind., 47424 or in person at the Foundation Office at the 4-H Fairgrounds.
A committee consisting of high school leaders and female Foundation scholarship winners will review the essays.
Two to three women from each Greene County community - Jasonville, Linton, Bloomfield, Worthington, Lyons, Newberry and Eastern Greene - will be chosen and recognized at a luncheon Saturday, March 10.
