Dulcimer Society Offers Classes

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Dulcimer Society is bringing noted dulcimer teacher Maureen Sellers to lead dulcimer workshops for novice to advanced players Saturday at the Family Life Center of the Mitchell Church of Christ on Main Street.

Sellers has been playing since 1989 and teaching students and leading workshops in the Appalachian dulcimer for 20 years. According to information from the Bedford Dulcimer Society, Sellers not only teaches how to play the dulcimer, she also shares the instrument's history.

The workshop for novice players will begin at 10 a.m. Students will work on chords, fingering and strum help.

Novice to intermediate players will meet at 1 p.m. Students will learn new songs, variations and endings.

Intermediate and more advanced musicians will meet at 2:45 p.m. They will learn rocking chords, walk ups, bass runs and more.

Each workshop will last for 90 minutes and cost $20. The cost to attend all three is $50.
