Last updated on Wednesday, January 18, 2012

(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Commissioners approved to accept the insurance committee’s request to pay $450 per employee, pre-year, to cover a health club membership and to have two health evaluations per-year.

That will only be in effect until August, the plan will be re-evaluated.

Marcey Phillips, of Healthy Balance, had asked the board in the last meeting to add individual incentives, including a Bigger Loser contest and bolster the county's new employee wellness program. Currently less the 10 percent of the county's employees were participating in the program. The wellness program began in August. The county has invested about $250 dollar per person involved, there currently 40 employees participating.

In other business commissioners signed the contract for Bulter, Fairman & Seufert civil engineers to conduct an inventory of county signs. The Federal Highway Administration set new standards for road signs and the county received $50,000 grant to undertake an inventory of its current signs.
