(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Farmer's Market could open by May.
A proposal to the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce for the town to have a Farmer's Market may become a reality, with a May 5th opening date.
The Farmer's Market committee has merged with the Bloomfield Community Revitalization promotions committee to help with funding and productivity.
The market will host local growers and producers. They also hope vendors representing restaurants, food co-ops and grocery stores will participate.
They intend to have the market open every Saturday morning from May 5 to Sept. 29th. No location for the market has been established, but committee members are working on that.
The committee is working on a Vendor's Handbook with all the rules and regulations. There will be a registration fee, but the committee says that fee will be low in order to attract a variety of vendors and make it profitable for them.
The committee still has a few kinks to work out. They are confident the project will be set to get underway soon.
One of the main goals of the Farmer's Market is to promote Bloomfield as a tourist destination in Greene County. The promotion committee plans to seek grants once the Chamber becomes members of the Main Street Program and hopes to purchase a building to host the market and other activities. They hope to have all the details worked out by the middle of February.
