Last updated on Monday, December 5, 2011

(BLOOMFIELD) - 40-year-old Jeffrey Adams, of Solsberry, has filed a petition in Greene County Circuit Court for post-conviction relief.

Adams is serving time in prison for the high-speed drag race that resulted in a head-on crash that left two people dead on May 9, 2009.

In his petition for post-conviction relief, Adams claims he was not afforded effective legal assistance by his privately-hired trial attorney Randall Scott Johns of Bloomington or from his court-appointed appeals trial lawyer John Pinnow, of Greenwood.

He also alleges he was denied due process and was wrongfully convicted and sentenced in the case, according to court records. A hearing date has not been set.

He was found guilty of aiding in reckless homicide in connection with the death of motorcyclist Jerry Marker. Adams was also found guilty of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and reckless driving.

Adams was sentenced to six years with two suspended, which will be served on probation once he is released from prison. He was given credit for 26 days served.

He was found not guilty of aiding in reckless homicide linked to the death of 19-year-old Jessica Allman, a passenger in the the vehicle that was driven by Adams' drag racing partner, Preston Williams.

Williams was convicted by a Greene County Circuit Court jury on Nov. 12, 2009 of two counts of reckless homicide, was sentenced to five years on each charge. He is currently serving his sentence at Pendleton Correctional Level 1 Facility. He has a projected release date of May 13, 2014.

Adams' lower court conviction was upheld by the Indiana Court of Appeals on Dec. 30, 2010.

Adams has a projected DOC release date of Feb. 2012.
