(FRENCH LICK) - An 87-year-old passenger train car has a new home at the Indiana Railway Museum in French Lick.
The Pullman car was built in 1924 and completed its 675-mile journey from Burns Harbor in northwest Indiana to southern Indiana by way of St. Louis last week after seven weeks of travel. The car stayed on Norfolk Southern rails nearly the entire way as it hitched rides at the tail of several trains.
The Herald of Jasper reports the car was used by Great Northern and Monon railroads. In 1971, it was bought by a Michigan City businessman who spent $500,000 renovating it. It was later donated to the Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society in Edinburgh.
The 84-foot-long car includes a kitchen, a dining room, a parlor area and three sleeping compartments.
