(UNDATED) - Swollen rivers and streams have flooded many lowland areas across southern Indiana, leading to scattered road closures.
The National Weather Service has a flood warning in effect for portions of the East Fork White, Muscatatuck, Wabash and White rivers and projects that river flooding will continue in southern Indiana through Saturday.
Officials say some state highways have been closed by high water in the Bedford, Spencer and Seymour areas.
Lawrence County Highway Superintendent David Holmes says that some trees have fallen because of saturated soil and that he expects more flooded roads in the coming days.
Saturated ground and heavy rains that have fallen the past couple of days have brought the East Fork of the White River out of its banks, closing Ind. 450 at Williams.
Lawrence County Police Department reported Stumphole Bridge Road, Old Buddha Road between Pinhook and Vinegar Hill, Bud Ikerd Road in the bottoms near Peerless and Bartlettsville Road near Ramsey Ridge Road are all under water.
The National Weather Service reports that the White River won't crest until the weekend.
The river is expected to crest at 26.9 feet at Bedford, which is at the bottom end of the moderate flooding stage.
At Williams, the river will rise to 13.8 feet on Saturday, just below moderate flooding stage.
