Boil Water Advisory For Pekin Residents

Last updated on Thursday, December 8, 2011

(PEKIN) - A boil water advisory is in effect for residents of Pekin, the result of a leak in a trunk line that carries water from Salem to the community. Pekin purchases water from the city.

Salem Water Superintendent Russell Brown said employees have been working to locate the problem, which could be in the middle of Blue River.

Brown said rain and high water are complicating matters. Sonar is being brought in to help locate the problem.

Officials became aware of the leak when Pekin customers experienced a drop water pressure, Brown said. He has been in contact with representatives of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

Pekin Town Manager Gary Nale said the only people who have water are those living right in town, whose water comes from a 60,000 gallon storage tank. Water for customers outside the town comes from a 200,000 gallon tank.

Clerk-Treasurer Sherry Clem said the boil water advisory remains in effect until further notice.
