Woman Attempted To Smuggle Contraband Into Jail

(BEDFORD) - 29-year-old Tandi Tipton was caught by police trying smuggle tobacco, synthetic marijuana and pills into the Lawrence County Jail.

Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says the incident happened near the end of visitation Tuesday night.

Tipton was charged with trafficking with an inmate and dealing schedule II and schedule IV controlled substances. She is being held on a $20,000 bond.

Inmates bore holes into the mortar of the block building and lower strings so other can tie items on the strings. The items are then pulled back into the jail. The items Tipton attempted to bring in never made it into the jail.

Police are investigating and are not sure wh, inside the jail was to receive the contraband.
