Last updated on Tuesday, December 6, 2011

(AVOCA) - A 13-year-old boy who fell about 35 feet off a cliff was flown by helicopter to Riley’s Children Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment Saturday afternoon, according to Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig.

The nature of the child's injuries were unknown at the time the teenager was flown out, Craig said.

Emergency personnel were called to the 300 block of Pinewood Drive in Avoca at 4:45 p.m. Saturday on a report that the boy had fallen. The boy lives on the back side of Pinewood Driver, where there are some old quarry holes and that is where he fell.

Responding were the Lawrence County Police Department, Indiana University Health Bedford ambulance and Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department.
