(WASHINGTON) - A Washington man died early Tuesday morning at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, and another Washington man who allegedly put him in the hospital was released from Daviess County Security Center as per the prosecutor.
An unknown female reported to Washington Police dispatchers around 1:04 a.m. Sunday that a man was lying in the street behind the Angle Inn, 710 W. Nat'l Hwy., and was bleeding from his head.
When police arrived they found 39-year-old Anthony Canary with head injuries and an injured elbow. At 1:11 a.m. police urged the ambulance to "rush" to the scene.
Canary was transported to Daviess Community Hospital and then airlifted to Evansville where he died on Tuesday.
39-year-old Thomas Keith Armstrong was arrested Sunday in conjunction with the incident. At that time he was charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injury and booked into the Daviess County Security Center, where he was held without bond until being released Tuesday morning.
According to police records, Connie Aldrick had called police at 1:47 a.m. Sunday to report that her son, Armstrong, had been in a fight and had a cut above his eye. She said an ambulance was not needed, but her son wanted to file a report with police. When officers interviewed Armstrong, he told them he had been struck with a bar stool. The officers advised him to get stitches for the large gash.
Neither WPD Detective Dan Christie nor Prosecutor Dan Murrie could comment on the possibility of future charges against Armstrong or on the case in general, as it is still under investigation.
