(SPENCER) - A southern Indiana widow has buried her husband on the farm they shared for half a century after months of trying to win permission from county officials.

About 20 mourners listened Sunday to a recording of Milo Blaker playing the hymn "Gray Speckled Bird" on the guitar before six friends lowered his cherry wood coffin into a grave in sight of his home near the Owen County town of Spencer.

Betty Blaker says that she wanted a simple ceremony because her 88-year-old husband already had funeral with a preacher after he died in December.

She says it was important to honor her husband's wish to be buried at their home even though she had to work around a state law against burials outside a legal cemetery.
