(PAOLI) - The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is bringing Tina Meier to Orange County schools on Dec. 6 to speak on bullying.
Meier will address seventh-and eight-grade students in all three Orange County school systems. Students from the three schools will assemble in the Paoli High School auditorium.
Meier's presentation is made possible by the Smithville Foundation and the Orange County Community Foundation.
Meier, at 6 p.m. on Dec. 6, will repeat the presentation for parents, teachers and other community members who want to attend. The evening presentation also will take place in the Paoli High School auditorium.
Meier is the mother of Megan Meier, who committed suicide in October 2006 as a result of bullying and cyberbullying. Megan's case attracted national attention to the issue of bullying. As a result, Tina Meier founded the Megan Meier Foundation and has become a national spokeswoman in the fight against bullying.
Meier has traveled throughout the country delivering her message to students, teachers and parents.
Megan was only 13 years old when she took her life as a result of bullying. The bullying was carried out on an Internet social media site and was instigated by the mother of a former friend of Megan.
Meier will provide information on how to recognize bullying and how to stop it when it occurs.
