(UNDATED) - The Indiana Retail Council is echoing national analysts who are saying it’s looking like a selfish Christmas.
The National Retail Federation says holiday sales this year are expected to rise over last year by only 2.8 percent to $465.6 billion. Last year, sales rose five percent from 2009.
Given that, analysts are predicting people will spend less on gifts and holiday merchandise and more money on themselves. They say a more "selfish Christmas" may help save the season for some retailers.
Indiana Retail Council President Grant Monahan says people may be seeking respite from the bad economy, there's pent-up demand and consumers are likely to treat themselves more this year.
