Man Attempts to Rob Bloomington Bank

(BLOOMINGTON) - 26-year-old David Banks, of Bloomington, was arrested in the parking lot of Farmers & Mechanics Federal Savings Bank holding a black bag of money.

Bloomington Police say Banks went into the bank around 1 p.m. Monday armed with a knife and a note demanding money. Police are not saying how much money Banks took, but they did say that all the money was recovered.

Officers surrounded the bank after receiving several phone calls about a man in the bank with a knife. Police arrived as Banks was fleeing from the building with the knife and a black bag filled with money. Police chased Banks and arrested him in the parking lot.

No one was injured.

Banks was booked into Monroe County Jail on a preliminary charge of bank robbery, a B felony and Banks remains there on $20,000 surety bond.
