(JACKSON COUNTY) - A one-vehicle wreck Tuesday evening left a Jackson-Washington Volunteer Fire Department truck with an estimated $200,000 in damage.
Jackson County Reserve Officer Scott Davis says firefighter Adam Luecke was driving the 1998 Ford firetruck north on County Road 600 East, south of County Road 200 North, when he moved over to the east side of the road to make room for oncoming traffic.
The wheels of the firetruck, which was carrying 1,000 gallons of water, sank into the loose shoulder because of the weight of the truck. Luecke attempted to bring the truck back on the road, but the weight and water caused the truck to travel across the road and go into a ditch on the west side.
The truck then overturned, crushing the cab. Firefighters were responding to assisting another department on a field fire when the accident happened.
A passer-by helped Luecke out of the crushed cab.
