(UNDATED) - Indiana Conservation Officers have had a very busy week as the deer firearms season is in full swing.

Conservation Officers in Operational District Six have checked numerous legal hunters but have located several poachers in violation of Indiana's hunting laws during the checking process.

According to District Six Commander Lt. Tim Beaver, seven people were cited for hunting deer over a baited area on opening weekend.

Nine people were cited for hunting on property without obtaining permission.

There were also numerous cases of hunters failing to wear hunter orange and failing to properly tag and check in deer.

Operational District Six covers Hendricks, Marion, Hancock, Johnson, Shelby, Bartholomew, Brown, Monroe and Morgan counties.

All of Indiana's hunting seasons and laws can be found online in the Hunting and Trapping Guide at Anyone who observes a violation is encouraged to call the TIP or (Turn in a Poacher) Hotline at 1-800-TIP-IDNR. There is often a monetary reward available when tips lead to an arrest.
