(SCOTLAND) - Four people were transported from the scene of a head-on crash by medical helicopter Monday afternoon on U.S. 231 near the Greene-Daviess County line.

The scene is just south of the Interstate-69 construction site about 2,500 feet north of County Road 800N. The area is northwest of Crane Naval Support Activity complex.

Greene County Sheriff Terry Pierce said details of the serious wreck are still unclear.
The names and the medical conditions of those involved won't be released until sometime today, according to the sheriff. Pierce says all four were transported by helicopter and he believes they were all taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Pierce said the accident involved a northbound Ford F-150 pick-up that apparently drove left of the center line and struck a southbound Chevrolet S-10 pickup head-on.

Each truck had one male and one female passengers, the sheriff says. Three Air-Evac helicopters and one Lifeline helicopter from IU Health Methodist Hospital were sent to the scene around 3:30 p.m.

The four occupants were entrapped in their respective vehicles, according to Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Curt Durnil.

Leading the investigation is Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy Heath Murray, He says he stepped back and let EMTs attend to the injured and will go to the hospital today to verify the names, conditions and interview those involved.
