Greene County Police Looking For Convicted Sex Offender

Last updated on Monday, November 28, 2011

(BLOOMFIELD) - Greene County Police are looking for convicted sex offender 57-year-old Clifford “Eddie” Wood.

For more than six months, Wood's residential location has been unknown to county police. That's disturbing to police because Wood is required to register for life on the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry.

Formal criminal charges were filed against Wood last week. He was charged in Greene Superior Court with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, a class D felony. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Wood was convicted of child molesting on Jan. 8, 1999 in Morgan County. His victim was an 11-year-old girl - which makes him an offender against children and requires him to register for life as a sex offender, according to Greene County Sheriff's Department Det. George Dallaire.

Wood was sentenced to seven years with the Indiana Department of Correction on Jan. 8, 1999. He was released Sept. 19, 2001.

His first registration in Greene County was Feb. 27, 2006 based on a conviction in Marion County, according to court records.

Wood's last known registered residence was at Route 3, Box 100 in Linton. Previously, he was registered at 11225 State Road 445, Bloomfield - which is located less than one-quarter of a mile from the campus of Eastern Greene Elementary and Middle School. However, police have determined that Wood moved from that location in April 2011.

Det. Dallaire said in his probable cause affidavit that Greene County Crimestoppers received a tip Nov. 12 that Wood had been seen hiding at a relative's home, located on NE G Street in Linton, but has since left that home.

Wood is described as 5 feet tall, weighing 240 pounds with green eyes and brown hair.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts should contact the Greene County Sheriff's Department at 384-4411 or Greene County Crimestoppers at (812) TIP-LINE or toll-free number at (866) 446-4672.
