(CORTLAND) - North Vernon father and son have been arrested in an incident involving theft of a chemical used to manufacture methamphetamine from a Cortland business.
Officer Rick Meyer with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department was on patrol at 9:15 p.m. Thursday in the area of Kova Fertilizer on Indiana 258 when he saw 51-year-old Tony George, trying to hide near anhydrous ammonia tanks.
According to the news release, Meyer arrested George and found items used to steal anhydrous near the tanks, including an air compressor, a water hose with fittings, a pipe wrench and other tools.
An hour later, county Officer Jeff Walters and Seymour Police Officer Ian McPherson were in the same area patrolling and saw a black Chevrolet Cavalier with its lights off on County Road 600 North behind Kova.
The two officers stopped the vehicle and arrested 21-year-old Brian George, who was in the area to pick up his father, Tony George. Brian George admitted to dropping off his father in the area earlier.
Tony George faces charges of theft and Brian George conspiracy to commit theft.
