Dugger Woman Faces Neglect Charges For Drunk Driving

Last updated on Monday, November 14, 2011

(BLOOMFIELD) - 28-year-old Erin King, of Dugger, is facing two felony neglect charges of a dependent after she wrecked her car last month.

King was allegedly drunk and had two children in the vehicle. King appeared in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing Monday facing two counts of neglect of a dependent; operating a vehicle while intoxicated in a manner that endangered a person; operating a vehicle while intoxicated; and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to at least .15 gram or more in the blood or breath.

King was involved in a single-vehicle property damage traffic accident on Oct. 31 at State Road 54 and County Road 1500W at about 8:20 p.m.

Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy Leon Dunigan wrote in his probable cause affidavit that King's 2007 Ford Taurus sustained damage to its driver's side front fender.

At the scene, King allegedly failed four field sobriety tests and then failed a breath test. Two boys - ages 6 and 8 - were passengers in King's car at the time of the wreck. No injuries were reported.

At the pre-trial hearing, Superior Court Judge Dena Martin issued a no-contact order between King and the two children and ordered suspension of King's driving privileges.

Public Defender Allan Baughman was appointed legal counsel for King and a pre-trial hearing was set for 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2012. King bonded out of the Greene County Jail in Bloomfield after posting 10 percent of a $4,000 bond.
