(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington panel has delayed its vote on whether to add a hotly debated section of the Interstate 69 extension into its transportation plan.
A committee of the Bloomington-Monroe County Metropolitan Planning Organization decided during a packed Friday meeting to delay until February its vote on adding the highway's 1.75-mile Monroe County portion to the plan.
The panel voted in September to delay its vote until November. In May, it approved a revised local transportation plan that omitted the 1.75-mile portion, citing concerns about how it will be funded, its environmental impact and the location of interchanges.
If the panel doesn't add the I-69 section to the plan, state officials say it could endanger federal money for Bloomington road projects.
