Blessing In A Backpack Could End At Two Schools

Last updated on Wednesday, November 30, 2011

(BEDFORD) - Blessings In A Backpack could end Jan. 1 at Parkview Primary and Stalker Elementary Schools because of lack of funding.

The program sends food home to low-income children every Friday. Lawrence InterFaith Endeavor, or L.I.F.E., has been subsidizing the programs at the two schools with money and people power.

But L.I.F.E. can no longer take on the cost. The cost is $80 per child, per school year. Other schools in the county do their own fund raising and have volunteers to help pack the backpacks.

Life allocated about $12,000 to help, but L.I.F.E. Co-Director Donnie Hall says the schools need to find the funds themselves if the program is to continue.
