(UNDATED) - Independent incumbent Shawna Girgis grabbed 56 percent of the votes to defeat Republican Rick Butterfield in the race for mayor of the city of Bedford.

Girgis says she is looking forward to serving Bedford for another four years. She thanked her employees and her devoted family and the voters for all their support.

In a tight race in Mitchell a new mayor will take the reins in January with Democrat Gary Pruett unseating incumbent Republican Dan Terrell. Pruett beat Terrell by 87 votes.

Terrell says it had been an honor and pleasure to led his home town.
"I gave it all I had and did the best I could do," he says.

Pruett said he was honored to be chosen by the residents of Mitchell and is looking forward to serving.

Terrell congratulated Pruett and offered to make the move into the Mayor's office smooth for him, which Pruett greatly appreciates. Pruett also thanked Terrell for his service to the city.
