Last updated on Monday, October 3, 2011

(SCOTTSBURG) - A Scott County woman was accidentally shot Saturday while shooting guns with family.

Sgt. Jerry Goodin of the Indiana State Police said Sunday that at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday Betty Jo Daniel, 50, of Scottsburg was target shooting with relatives at 5942 S. Slate Ford Road in Underwood.

"As Betty Jo Daniel was shooting the handgun, it jammed," Goodin said. "She handed the weapon to another family member to unjamb, and when the family member cleared the weapon it went off, striking Betty Jo Daniel." Goodin added no foul play is suspected.

Daniel was taken to University of Louisville Hospital by air ambulance in serious condition, Goodin said.

Assisting agencies included Scott County Sheriff's Department and Scott County E.M.S.
