(MITCHELL) - Police arrested a man and a 16-year-old after they were found them making meth in a garage on Oak Street in Mitchell.

34-year-old Carlis Vincent, of Mitchell, was charged with manufacturing and possession of methamphetamine, possession of precursors with intent to manufacture, contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The teen, also of Mitchell, was taken to a juvenile detention center on charges of manufacturing and possession of methamphetamine and possession of a precursors with the intent to manufacture.

Indiana State Police Trooper Joshua Allen says they received information about the meth lab, after a retired ISP trooper received a text message wanting to know if he wanted to purchase meth or heroine.

Police answered the text message and set up a meeting at 419 Oak Street.

Oolitic K-9 officer Bill Allen was called to the scene. When police arrived they noticed a strong odor of chemicals and found Vincent and the teen cooking the meth in the garage.

Officers also found numerous items consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine inside the home, as well as a large quantity of methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana. The officers also confiscated items used to ingest heroin and marijuana.

The teenager was transported by ambulance to a local hospital to be treated for hyperventilation caused from the toxic fumes produced by the illegal drug lab, according to an Indiana State Police news release.

Seven other children, ages 2 to 15, were at the home. The Department of Child Services was contacted.

The ISP Clandestine Lab team dismantled the lab and disposed of the toxic chemicals. Also assisting at the scene were Oolitic K-9 officer Bill Allen, Oolitic Town Marshal Jon Jeffries, ISP Trooper Justin Butler, the Mitchell Police Department and Mitchell Fire Department.
