Three Dead After Crash In Odon

Last updated on Tuesday, October 11, 2011

(ODON) - A three vehicle crash on State Road 58 between Odon and just west of North Daviess High School has left three people dead.

39-year-old Jerri J. Davis, of Odon 56-year-old Paula J. Young, of Odon and 74-year-old Lester Blair, of Elnora, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Daviess County Coroner's Office.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Chad Dick says Davis was traveling west on State Road 58, when her van ran out of gas. Her mother, Paula Young was following Davis and stopped behind Davis' van. A near-by homeowner, Lester Blair, went to assist the ladies by bringing a container of gasoline.

All indications are that Davis and Lester were near Davis' van and Young was in her van when the Young Trucking dump truck, driven by 49-year-old Jeffrey Wolford, of Bloomington, collided into Young's van.

The dump truck then flipped on its side and spilled gravel on the roadway.

Wolford was taken to Daviess County Hospital where he was treated and released.

Police say it is unclear why Wolford crashed into the vans, but alcohol nor drugs do not appear to be involved.

State Road 58 was closed for about six hours following the wreck.

The accident is still under investigation and anyone who may of witnessed the accident are asked to call the ISP Jasper Post. at 812-482-1441 or 800-742-7475.

Once police finish their investigation, the case will be turned over to the Daviess County Prosecutor's Officer for review and determination of whether any charges will be filed, Dick says.
