Teens Want Help Buying Oxygen Mask For Pets

Last updated on Monday, October 24, 2011

(BEDFORD) - Miley and Macy Nikirk still need your help. They are raising funds to buy pet oxygen masks for all the fire departments and ambulance services in Lawrence County. They are looking for individuals and business to help.

The girls began their quest Project Bow Wow after seeing a photo in the Times-Mail of firefighters giving oxygen to a cat that was rescued at a house fire on Edgewood Drive. The girls are pet lovers and know how much their pet means to them and if they can help save someone's pet, when they have lost everything else they want to be able to do that.

The girls presented Bedford Fire Department Chief Jon Wagner five masks during the annual fire prevention dinner.

Jeff Nikirk, their father, says the next step is to buy four masks for the ambulance crews. Then purchase 22 masks for each volunteer fire department. The reusable masks cost about $65 each.

The first six corporate sponsors to help in Project Bow Wow have been Keach and Grove Real Estate, Keach and Grove Property, Hoosier Hills Credit Union, German American Bank, German American Insurance and Tabernacle of Praise.
