(JASONVILLE) - A 17-year-old Shakamak High School girl is still recovering from her injuries after being hit by a car Wednesday as she walked to school.
The accident serves as a scary reminder to everyone to be alert while on the roads, whether you're a driver or a pedestrian.
Wednesday's accident happened just after 7 a.m. at State Road 48 and Fry Street.
The teen was crossing S.R. 48 to get to Shakamak High School when she was hit.
The vehicle was traveling east into Jasonville around a major curve.
School officials say the first person on the scene was actually a bus driver, who's also a trained paramedic.
The teen was transported by medical helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital. She is still in fair condition at Methodist Hospital with several broken bones and a skull fracture.
The teen called the school this morning to update them on her condition.
The accident is still under investigation, but police say early morning darkness, wet roads, and the curved intersection all likely contributed.
