(WASHINGTON) - Based on descriptions of some items stolen from the Larry and Shirley McLin residence, S.W. 11th Street, in Washington, last week, investigators believe they’re the same items the Daviess County Sheriff’s Dive Team recently pulled out of the White River. Divers searched the river Saturday and Monday in two different areas, according to Detective Bill Dougherty.
The dive team recovered various name-brand tools, DVD players, ammunition, a pellet rifle, gun cases, assorted knives, lighters, remote controls, a brief case, a laptop, stereo and speakers, and a barbecue grill set, among other items.
A gun case and ammunition recovered are consistent with items stolen from the home.
The McLins were not home when the break-in happened. Their grandson was checking on the house when he noticed the door unlocked and a garage door busted in. He called police.
Police have the name of a possible suspect.
The divers were requested Saturday after dispatchers received a call from a man reporting tools on the riverbank.
Police have not recovered the guns stolen from the home. Police believe the thief got scared he'd be caught and decided to get rid of the evidence.
Dougherty said he believes they recovered most of the items in the river, but divers have a hard time seeing under the murky water and have to locate items by feel.
