(SOLSBERRY) - The Greene County Sheriff's Department is looking for the driver of a vehicle that disregarded the stop arm of a school bus and nearly missed hitting a Solsberry student Wednesday morning.

Greene County Sheriff Terry Pierce says thankfully the student was not hit, but this is not the first incident of drivers disregarding bus stop arms. There have been three to five other incidents in the district since school started in August.

Pierce says that the bus driver was able to provide police with a description of the vehicle and the case is under investigation.

It is against the law to disregard a bus stop arm. A motorist will be issued a ticket that carries a fine and court cost of more than $200.

Pierce says he is considering putting officers on the school buses to stop violators. Last year Indiana State Police troopers rode Bloomfield buses to stop violators.
