(BLOOMINGTON) - A branch of the Occupy movement in Bloomington is camping at Peoples Park.

A group of 200 or so marched downtown Sunday evening.

Twenty-four hours later, a dozen pitched tents and are staying in the park at Kirkwood Avenue and Dunn Street. More than a dozen protesters stayed in the park Monday, sitting on benches and writing mission statement on cardboard signs.

It's Bloomington's version of the highly publicized New York City protest, dubbed "Occupy Wall Street." After going viral on Facebook and Twitter, the movement has rippled to cities across the U.S.

Though it's against city code, people are being allowed to stay overnight at Peoples Park as long as their protests are not disruptive, said Mayor Mark Kruzan.
