Last updated on Wednesday, October 19, 2011

(JACKSON COUNTY) - 74-year-old Richard Taylor, of Indianapolis is in critical condition at an Indianapolis hospital after he crashed his motorcycle Sunday afternoon in northwestern Jackson County.

According to Jackson County Police Officer Tom Barker, Taylor crashed after a dog ran in front of his 2002 Honda motorcycle as he was traveling west on Ind. 58.
Taylor, who was riding with a group of motorcyclists, was unable to avoid the dog, which caused him to lose control of the motorcycle.

Taylor, who was wearing a helmet, sustained numerous injuries, Barker said.

Pershing Township Fire Department arrived on the scene first and began treating Taylor until Jackson County Emergency Medical Services arrived.

Taylor was taken to the Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department station at Cortland and then flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by Lifeline helicopter.
