Man Killed After Crashing Into Semi

Last updated on Tuesday, October 18, 2011

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man died at the scene after he crashed his truck into the back of a semi on Ind. 37, near John Williams Boulevard Monday afternoon.

66-year-old Pat Murphy, of Bedford, died of blunt force injuries according to Lawrence County Coroner John Sherrill.

Murphy's pickup truck rear-ended a semi-truck's trailer in the northbound lane of Ind. 37 at the stoplight with John Williams Boulevard just before noon.

Sherrill says Murphy had a heart condition and diabetes, but those did not appear to be contributing factors in the crash.

Sherrill said he's uncertain what caused the crash, but it wasn't a heart attack.

"We're just not really sure what happened," Sherrill says.

The Bedford Police Department is investigating the accident. No accident report was available this as of Tuesday morning.
