(LOOGOOTEE) - The Loogootee Intermediate fifth and sixth grade students and teachers, along with the Parents Advisory Committee (PAC), will be starting work on a recycling project titled “You Can Make A Difference”.
According to PAC leader Lisa Nonte, the goal of this project is simple - teach children and adults the advantages of recycling and implement a working program to accomplish this, while working together as a classroom, school, and community.
The 5th and 6th graders will be decorating collection boxes in art class that will be placed in the gyms and cafeteria areas for the collection of empty pop and water bottles. Collection containers will also be placed in various areas for the collection of ink cartridges, newspapers, magazines, and catalogs.
Residents are asked to help in the efforts by starting their own collection of recyclable in their home.
The items to separate and collect include the following: newspapers, magazines/catalogs, junk mail/paper, pop/water bottles, milk/bleach/fabric softener/detergent jugs, grocery sacks, tin cans (rinsed), cardboard, aluminum, purses, belts, and textiles such as wearable shoes/clothing (anything that is fabric and used on the body or in the home). No carpet, plastic clothing, rubber boots, slippers, or high heels can be accepted.
Collected items can be dropped off after getting a Lion Receipt from the students and then take the recyclables to the recycling center in Loogootee during their business hours.
Make sure that the center's employee knows that it is for the Loogootee Intermediate Recycling Project. The school will then receive credit for your contribution.
Items can also be dropped off in the back parking lot of the high school during the community collection day event on November 12 from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Volunteers will assist will unloading the recyclables.
