(UNDATED) - The local fall harvest is underway. AG professionals are advising farmers to harvest dryer crops first.
Ken Eck is with the local Purdue Extension Service office. He says farmers still have most of the harvest still ahead.
It's still too early to harvest soybeans.
Eck says only 1 soybean field has been harvested in Dubois County.
This is also the time of year that winter cover crops go into the ground. Winter cover crops are grasses, legumes or small grains that are planted during the winter. They help protect and improve the soil during the late fall and winter months.
Eck says winter cover crops need special attention during planting. Eck also says this year's fly-free date for winter wheat planting is October 8th.
