Knobstone Hiker Found Unharmed

(WASHINGTON COUNTY) - Law enforcement officers from several different departments joined forces Thursday morning to search for a lost hiker on the Knobstone Trail in Washington County.

Bennie Pratt, of Austin, was found unharmed on Smith Road around 11 a.m.

According to a press release from the DNR, Pratt was reported missing at 10 p.m. Wednesday. Family members told police that he had been dropped off at the Leota Trail Head, in Scott County, at approximately 9:30 a.m. and was to be picked up at the Elk Creek Trailhead, in Washington County, before dark.When he hadn't arrived by 10 p.m., family members contacted the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Searchers hiked the trail and patrolled county roads but suspended the search at 4 a.m. after determining Pratt was not on the seven-mile section of trail. The search resumed at 9 a.m.

Pratt told rescuers that he had gotten turned around off the trail and was not able to find his way out in the dark. He was in good health and good spirits; his only complaint was that he was hungry.
