(CLAY COUNTY) - 18-year-old Joshua Brinson, of rural Jasonville was flown by helicopter to Methodist Hospital after he crashed his car Tuesday on State Road 48, according to Clay County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Jeff Maynard.

Maynard said he was only able to speak with Brinson briefly before he was taken to the hospital.

Brinson told Maynard he believed he had blacked out before hitting a tree head-on.

The car was totaled in the accident, and it broke the frame. Maynard says alcohol is not believed to be involved.

The accident is still under investigation.

Brinson was listed in serious condition as of Thursday morning.
