(BLOOMINGTON) - On Saturday, Indiana State Police will be participating in a nationwide initiative headed by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) called “Prescription Drug Take Back Day.”
Collection sites will be set up nationwide to collect expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction.
This service is free, anonymous and no questions will be asked. Citizens can drop off their prescription drugs for disposal at the Indiana State Police Post, 1500 N. Packinghouse Road, in Bloomington on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
In April, a total of 60 agencies participated at 85 locations across the state collecting 8,096 pounds of expired, unused or unwanted medications.
The goal is to safely collect and destroy medications so they don't fall into the hands of those who shouldn't have them, especially children. Also, to prevent them from contaminating water sources by being dumped or flushed down drains.
