(UNDATED) (WISH) - Amid nationwide cries about the cost of higher education, one Indiana university is reducing tuition costs.

Indiana University President Michael McRobbie the university is reducing summer tuition by 25 percent in effort to provide students financial relief and reduce the amount of time it takes to earn an IU degree.

The discount for students taking a full course load in the summer ranges from $700 at IU's regional campuses, to about $1000 at IUPUI and $1050 at IU Bloomington.

Greater attendance in the summer will allow IU to make more efficient use of its facilities. It also will provide an affordable option for students who want to complete their degrees at IU on a faster track than the traditional model, McRobbie says.

The tuition reduction plan will be presented to the IU Board of Trustees on Friday.
