Last updated on Thursday, October 20, 2011

(FRENCH LICK) - The French Lick Municipal Airport has been named the Airport of the Year by the Aviation Association of Indiana.

Selection of the Airport of the Year is made after an evaluation of the airport's role in promoting aviation safety, education, economic development and corporate citizenship.

The award was accepted by Bill Kimmel, president of the French Lick Board of Aviation.
Highlighted was the role the airport has played in economic development with the new terminal building and the new parallel taxiway; educating students on the role the airport plays in the community; and expanding the knowledge of emergency responders to aircraft incidents.

Flight tracking for the past three years shows aircraft from four countries, 48 states and more than 800 cities have visited the airport.

The award includes a cash grant in the amount of $1,000 to be given to an eligible community organization of the airport board's choosing. The board has designated the French Lick - West Baden Museum to receive the grant.
