(BEDFORD) - Valerie Luchauer, director of emergency management for Lawrence County, told Lawrence County Commissioners Tuesday that she will be passing out 24 weather radios made available by Indiana Home Land Security to low income families, those with disabilities and day care centers in Lawrence County.

The number of radios given to the county was determined by Lawrence County's population, Luchauer says.

She will also be distributing 200 combination carbon monoxide/smoke detectors to the Bedford Fire Department and the county volunteer fire department, who will then pass out to residents.

Those wanting a weather radio is asked to call Luchauer. Residents needing a detector are asked to contact their local fire department.

* Bedford resident Sam Shaw wanted to know who has the right to sign contracts to keep individuals off county owned property.

* The commissioners opened bids for dump trucks, stone, asphalt and fuel. The bids were taken under advisement.
