Dogs Home After Being Shot

Last updated on Friday, October 28, 2011

(BEDFORD) - Taffy and Barney, the two dogs that survived multiple gunshots wounds more than a week ago, have come home.

Barney has some swelling on his brain and Taffy's eye has some impaired vision, says owner Carrie Kirk.

Another family pet, a beagle, named Pugsley, died after being shot with a small-caliber hand gun. All three dogs were shot multiple times in the head.

Kirk and Curtis Hackler had the dogs in a pen at a home they were moving into on Teddy Bird Lane. Hackler had just left the property and came back to find the dogs shot.

Lawrence County Police are investigating and following leads.

The family is offering a reward to anyone who has information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person who shot the dogs. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 275-3316.

The couple is extremely thankful for the community's support. Now they are struggling to pay the vet bills, anyone wishing to donate can contact the Bedford Veterinary Medical Centre at 515 Oolitic Road.
