(BEDFORD) - Anthony “Pat” Murphy, 66, 1420 Poplar St., Bedford, died of blunt force injuries as a result of a crash at Ind. 37 and John Williams Boulevard Monday around noon, according to Lawrence County Coroner John Sherrill. Police were unable to find a pulse and Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Murphy's pickup truck rear-ended a semi-truck's trailer in the northbound lane of Ind. 37 at the stoplight with John Williams Boulevard just before noon.
Murphy, Sherrill said, had some heart problems and diabetes, but it doesn't appear those conditions were a contributing cause in the crash, Sherrill said.
Bedford Police Department Chief Dennis Parsley said there is no indication alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
The Bedford Police Department accident report reads, the "initial cause of the accident is unknown at this time."
A witness told police the semi was nearly stopped at the light when Murphy's 2001 Ford F150 pickup slammed into the trailer of the truck. The truck, a 2007 Peterbilt, was being driven by 55-year-old Dwight R. Wisley, of Orleans, and was owned by Hancock Trucking.
The witness told police the pickup didn't slow down before rear-ending the truck's trailer.
Police reported there were no skids marks from Murphy's truck.
